Will Harper Go To Copenhagen?

by Tzeporah Berman

Denmark has now officially invited 191 world leaders to salvage attend in person the UN climate summit in Copenhagen this December.

French Prez Nicolas Sarkozy and Britain’s Gordon Brown have joined the 40 heads of state that have already booked their tickets. German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she’ll go if the US, China and India “reveal their negotiating positions.”

Obama’s sounding like he’s going:

“If I am confident that all of the countries involved are bargaining in good faith and we are on the brink of a meaningful agreement and my presence in Copenhagen will make a difference in tipping us over edge then certainly that’s something that I will do.”

“I think the question is can we create a set of principles, building blocks, that allow for ongoing and continuing progress on the issue and that’s something I’m confident we can achieve,”

No word yet from our Canadian PM’s office. But we’re following the Americans on this global warming thing. So we’re going to make promising noises and then go and get something done — right? Right?

Whoa, I just took it for granted that Mr. Harper would be going. I mean, how could he not?? I’ll have to e-mail Mr. Harper, Mr. Layton and my MP, Glenn Thibeault, to double check that he got the invitation.
